Three students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program, President University (PresUniv), won third place in the Appropriate Technology Design competition in the Mechanical Engineering Competition 2021, Wednesday (5/1). They are Alvin Putra Wardana, Ichsan Nur Rizky, and Steven Ardianta. This competition was held by Malikusaleh University, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, with the theme "Inovasi Teknologi dalam Mempersiapkan Teknologi Industri 4.0". According to Alvin, this competition allows them to train creativity and find the right solution for medium-sized industrial businesses.

In this competition, they designed the Smart Salt Preservation Conveyor Machine. This machine is used for fish processing. “This tool is intended for fish processing entrepreneurs in factories or upstream production to increase productivity. This tool will reduce man workers and increase the amount of fish processing production so that the business will be more efficient,” explained Alvin. Alvin said this idea was born from their research which saw that the fish processing in factories or upstream was still not hygienic and efficient. "This machine will make the fish processing much cleaner, healthier, and faster," he stressed.

Talking about conveyor machines, said Alvin, it has been widely used in industry. However, the conveyor machine designed by Alvin and his team is different. “Our machines are already integrated with the Internet of Things or IoT, so the whole process is done automatically. Starting from the process of washing, salting, and sorting. Besides having an attractive design, our machine is capable of sorting 1.2 tons of fish per hour,” he explained. Alvin added that this machine still needs special attention in the field of automation and efficiency in the future. "Further research needs to be done to improve the quality and productivity of the machine," he concluded. (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Alvin)
