Saturday (16/10), President University Major Association of Master of Technology Management held a webinar on the Potensi dan Kreativitas Kampung Wisata Toraja dalam Meningkatkan Ekonomi Kerakyatan. This webinar presented six speakers, namely Roberson Embong, S.T., Chairman of PUMA Master of Technology Management; Lily Amelia Salurapa, S.E, M.M., member of DPD RI South Sulawesi Province; Dr. Sumule Tumbo, S.E, M.M, Head of Research and Development Center for Regional Development and Finance, Ministry of Trade; Dr. I Wayan Ruspendi J. SE, MA., lecturer at Dhyana Pura University; Panca R. Sarongu, SE, MMSI, CTE., Chairman of the DPP MASATA; and Pdt. Dr. Johana R Tangirerung, S.Th, M.Th., from BPS Toraja Church.

According to Embong, Toraja is the only area globally that has a different culture from the others. “In this world, we will never be able to find a culture that is the same as the Toraja culture. Toraja is also famous for its beautiful natural wonders," he said. Embong said Toraja has a lot of tourism potential. One of them is the land above the clouds. "There are many expressions about the beauty of Toraja, such as "do not die before going to Toraja." Embong also quoted the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, "You do not have to die to go to heaven." The point is that Toraja is so beautiful that it is enough to come to Toraja to see heaven.

Lily agrees that Toraja has unique potential and needs to be developed to become a tourism locomotive for South Sulawesi. “Toraja tourism needs to be developed with our heart through infrastructure development. For this reason, DPD RI supports activities related to the region, including the development of tourism infrastructure in the region," She said. According to Lily, promotion is essential for the tourism sector. “Something beautiful, interesting, and attractive should be promoted. Otherwise, people will not know. So, let us promote Toraja while developing its infrastructure," She said. (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Gilang).
