UX Designer is a job position with the highest demand growth or most sought by companies in the last decade based on the Cognizant Jobs of the Future Index. To find out more about the role of the UX Designer, President University Major Association (PUMA) Industrial Engineering held a webinar entitled UX Starter Pack for Beginners, Saturday (3/7). This webinar was led by Yoana Belanita Riwang, Category Insight Lead Tokopedia, and Alumna of the Industrial Engineering Study Program at President University (PresUniv). This webinar presented Kamila Okta Saarah, UX Designer and Product Design Lead Tokopedia as a speaker. This webinar was opened by Andira Taslim, S.T., M.T., Head of PresUniv Industrial Engineering Study Program.

Kamila said the product designer team consisted of User Experience Researcher (UXR), User Experience Writer (UXW), user experience designer, user interface designer, and user experience engineer. “UXR has a role in exploring user needs through qualitative and quantitative research. UXR also creates user insights that will be used for future improvement. Meanwhile, UXW plays a role in writing the application. The writing must be effective and clear so that it can help the user experience in the application,” she explained. The product design team will communicate with other teams in their daily work, such as the product, technology, and data teams.

Then, how is the process in designing the product?. Kamila explained four main phases in product design: discover, define, explore, and validate. "In the implementation of the four phases, of course, there are challenges in implementing them, such as a tight timeline to pursue targets and a limited number of resources," she said. Kamila also shared methods to face these challenges through Co-design or Workshop and Design Sprint. “The function of the workshop is to formulate problem statements and make top priorities. Priorities are ordered based on the best effect with minimal resources and can be done now," said Kamila. (Gilang Suryanata, PR team. Photo: Gilang Suryanata)
