Bali, Indonesia – President University is hosting 26 higher education institutions from 12 countries who were coming in its first international conference entitled International Conference on Family Business and Entrepreneurship (ICFBE) at Inna Grand Beach Hotel Bali, Sanur, on May 3-5, 2017. Some of the big names that was also invited and attended in the event are S.D. Darmono, Chairman of Jababeka Group and Founder of President University, Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Republic of Indonesia, Haryadi B. Sukamdani, Chairman of Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (APINDO), Nugroho Sukamdani, Vice President Sahid Holding International and Chairman Sahid Jaya Foundation, and professors and academic experts in the field of family business and entrepreneurship.

“This is the first international conference that is being held by President University and will be the first step to bigger international conferences in the future”, said Dr. Jony O. Haryanto, the Rector of President University in his speech opening the conference.

Also, attended in the event as a keynote speaker, the Founder of President University and also Chairman of Jababeka Group, S.D. Darmono. As a entrepreneur and leader, Darmono shared his experiences and view towards the Family Business topic.

He shared his view about nepotism of which is frequently happening in a family business and how important business people in building the nation.

“It’s an undeniable fact that in building new business great capital is needed. In this case, nepotism is becoming very important. We have strong trust towards our family and closest friends. There is security produced by nepotism, both for banks and market. Ergo, nepotism in family business have to be a point that can be discussed and debatable”, explained Darmono.

According to Darmono, there’s always two sides of a coin in everything. He explained that KKN in a negative side is defined as Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism. However, we have to be open and understand that there’s also a positive side of KKN, which is Connection, Communication, and Networking.

“Frequently we feel afraid to do something because we read too much theories and high level of unemployment is the result of this. Citizens need more room to practice and to create more new jobs. Therefore, I wrote a book titled Building a Ship While Sailing that tells a story on how this country build and how important business people to the country”, closed Darmono.

The Rector of President University, Dr. Jony O. Haryanto, hopes that this conference is not only becoming an event to present theories, but also becoming a media to establish relationships and collaborations inter institutions. (AA)


Bali, Indonesia – President University menjadi tuan rumah untuk 26 institusi pendidikan dari 12 negara yang hadir di konferensi internasional pertamanya yang bertajuk International Conference on Family Business and Entrepreneurship (ICFBE) di Inna Grand Beach Hotel Bali, Sanur, pada 3-5 Mei 2017. Beberapa nama besar yang turut diundang dan hadir dalam acara ini adalah S.D. Darmono, Chairman Jababeka Group dan Founder President University, Darmin Nasution, Menteri Koordinator Perekonomian Indonesia, Anak Agung Gede Ngurah Puspayoga, Menteri Koperasi dan Usaha Kecil Menengah, Haryadi B. Sukamdani, Ketua Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO), Nugroho Sukamdani, Vice President Sahid Holding International dan Chairman Sahid Jaya Foundation, dan para professor dan ahli akademisi di bidang family business dan entrepreneurship (kewirausahaan).

“Ini merupakan konferensi internasional pertama yang diadakan oleh President University dan akan menjadi langkah awal untuk konferensi-konferensi internasional yang lebih besar di kemudian hari”, ujar Dr. Jony O. Haryanto, Rektor President University dalam pidatonya untuk membuka acara ini.

Turut hadir dalam acara ini sebagai pembicara, Pendiri President University dan juga Chairman Jababeka Group, S.D. Darmono. Sebagai seorang pelaku usaha dan pemimpin, Darmono membagikan pengalaman dan pandangannya terhadap topik Family Business.

Ia membagikan pandangannya tentang Nepotisme yang sering terjadi dalam Family Business serta betapa pentingnya pelaku usaha (wiraswasta) dalam membangun negara Indonesia.

“Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa dalam membuat usaha yang baru diperlukan modal yang besar. Dalam hal ini nepotisme menjadi hal sangat penting. Kita memiliki kepercayaan yang kuat pada keluarga dan teman-teman terdekat kita. Ada keamanan yang dihasilkan dari nepotisme, baik bagi bank maupun pasar. Sehingga nepotisme dalam family business harus menjadi poin yang dapat didiskusikan bahkan diperdebatkan”, jelas Darmono.

Menurut Darmono, selalu ada dua sisi dalam segala hal. Ia menjelaskan bahwa KKN dalam segi negatif diartikan sebagai Korupsi, Kolusi, dan Nepotisme. Akan tetapi, kita harus terbuka dan paham bahwa ada sisi positif dari KKN, yaitu Koneksi, Komunikasi, dan Networking.

“Seringkali kita merasa takut untuk melakukan sesuatu karena membaca terlalu banyak teori dan hal ini menghasilkan tingkat pengangguran yang tinggi. Masyarakat butuh lebih banyak ruang untuk praktek dan terjun langsung untuk membuat banyak lapangan pekerjaan baru. Maka dari itu, saya menulis sebuah buku berjudul Building a Ship While Sailing yang membahas bagaimana negara ini didirikan dan dibangun serta betapa pentingnya pelaku usaha bagi negara”, tutup Darmono.

Rektor President University, Dr. Jony O. Haryanto, berharap bahwa konferensi ini tidak hanya menjadi ajang untuk mempresentasikan teori, namun menjadi sarana untuk membangun hubungan dan kolaborasi antar institusi. (AA)
