Cikarang, Bekasi - President University International Relations Major Association (PUMA IR) conducted a general lecture with the theme of "The Review of President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's Global Maritime Fulcrum: The Perspective from Maritime Defense Sector and the National Education" and invited Drs. H. Abdul Wahid Maktub, Special Staff in Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education, as the guest speaker. The event was held in Charles Himawan Auditorium President University, Cikarang (11/01).
"To make Indonesia as a maritime fulcrum possible to be achieved, we need the role of higher education institutions within the efforts. Starting from increasing the quality of higher education. This includes on encouraging university students to be more active on making a proper, well-researched academic papers and international publication, not only for the formality, but along with the substantial aspect as well, for the sake of education and acknowledgement", said Abdul who delivers the lecture in English and admitted it was his first time doing so.
According to him, it is important to make collaborations between universities, industrial sectors, and also communities to maximize the potential of human resources, especially the fresh graduates. More than ever before, it is essential for us to not only focusing on theoretical knowledge on academic, but also on vocational and professional skills as well.
"Being near to the industries is an advantage for President University. I'm surprised to know that President University conducts all the study in English. I believe you guys are more prepared to face globalization", said the Special Staff in Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Republic of Indonesia.
Abdul Wahid also encouraged us, as Indonesian citizens, to be able to support the nation as it faces the challenges by changing the culture of self-oriented to be more nation-oriented and start to give more attention to what is happening within the nation. (NAN)
