As a university that has a curriculum which requires students to experience the field they are studying directly, President University held an event titled "Statepersonship in Action" which took place in President University Student Housing field on Friday (29/6). The event aims to provide a briefing for students batch 2017 that will conduct community service for more than two weeks.
The program is a mandatory program from Statepersonship subject which is a civic education. In the subject, students are divided into several groups and were required to create a community service project and choose their desired location. The projects are varied, from go green movement to human empowerment.
“In other universities, general subjects have a bigger portion in theory and ideology. We want to flip that, theory is a sideline and the rest is experiencing the real world because the core of civic education is in the attitude, so we have to go and involve in the community in the portion provided by the university,” said one of lecturers and coordinator of Statepersonship subject, Haris Herdiansyah.
In this event, Vice Rector for Academic, Ir. Dwi Larso, Ph.D gave remarks and discourse to all the attendees. He stated that the university fully supports students to achieve what they dream with the provided curriculum where most of it is to gain skill and practical knowledge from various places through programs which available in President University, one of them is internship program.
“With the involvement of students in the community, it is expected to make them as someone who can help to build the nation," said Dwi Larso.
Sebagai universitas yang mempunyai kurikulum dimana banyak mengharuskan mahasiswa terjun langsung ke dunia yang tengah mereka pelajari, President University menyelenggarakan sebuah acara bertajuk “Statepersonship in Action” yang bertempat di lapangan President University Student Housing pada Jumat (29/6). Acara tersebut bertujuan sebagai pembekalan bagi mahasiswa angkatan 2017 yang akan terjun ke tengah-tengah masyarakat selama lebih dari dua minggu dalam rangka program pengabdian kepada masyarakat.
Program ini merupakan program wajib dari mata kuliah Statepersonship yang merupakan pendidikan kewarganegaraan. Dalam mata kuliah tersebut, mahasiswa yang dibagi beberapa grup diharuskan membuat sebuah proyek pengabdian masyarakat dan memilih lokasi yang hendak mereka kunjungi. Terdapat berbagai proyek, mulai dari gerakan go green sampai pembedayaan masyarakat.
“Kalau di universitas lain, mata kuliah umum itu porsinya lebih besar di teori dan di ideologi. Nah kita balik itu, teori itu adalah sampingan selebihnya itu di lapangan karena kewarganegaraan itu intinya di perilaku, jadi memang harus terjun ke lapangan dengan porsi yang disediakan oleh universitasnya,” ungkap salah satu dosen serta koordinator mata kuliah Statepersonship, Haris Herdiansyah.
Dalam acara ini, Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik, Ir. Dwi Larso, Ph.D turut memberi sambutan serta arahan pada seluruh mahasiswa yang hadir. Ia manyampaikan bahwa universitas mendukung secara penuh mahasiswa agar mencapai apa yang mereka cita-citakan dengan kurikulum yang ada dimana sebagian besar merupakan proses untuk memperoleh keterampilan dan ilmu praktis dari berbagai tempat melalui program-program yang ada di President University, salah satunya program magang.
Dengan keterlibatan mahasiswa ditengah masyarakat, diharapkan akan menjadikan mereka sebagai seseorang yang bisa turut menbangun bangsa,” ujar Dwi Larso.
