Bali, Indonesia—President University (PresUniv) through its Law Study Program students won "Spirit of Jessup Award" in Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition 2018 that was held in Universitas Udayana, Bali (2-4/2). The Spirit of Jessup Award is an award that is given to the team that best exemplifies the Jessup spirit of comradeship, academic excellence, competitiveness, and appreciation of fellow competitors. PresUniv was also selected because it is the only first-timer team that managed to be in the Top 10 as well as obtaining a great score.
There were 23 teams from universities across Indonesia competed in the event. The team consist of seven Law students batch 2015; Suherlin, Niluh Larasathy Pinkan, Selly Marcelina, Vera Wati Natalita S, Wiwin Widianingsih, Rizki Maryam Amanda, Rahmah Mutiara Mustikaningsih, and mentored by Ulya Yasmine Prisandani, S.H., LL.M, one of lecturers of Law Study Program PresUniv.
Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 645 law schools in 95 countries. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.
“The team’s motto for this competition is ‘hard work never betrays’. But as a coach, I can proudly say that they deserve this award and being in the top 10 seeing the amount of hard work that they have put throughout these past months. This is such an invaluable and precious experience for them, developing them to be better both as law students and as professional individuals,” said Yasmine.
The PresUniv team prepares for this competition for two months. Although they have practiced very hard on Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 12 am, the sacrifice pays off and the team members are able to balance the coursework and preparation of this competition.
"We are grateful to be able to join this competition. Honestly we learn very much, especially in the field of International Law. We also learned how to structure a good and systematic memo and how to cite reliable legal sources, "said Suherlin.
Bali, Indonesia—President University (PresUniv) melalui mahasiswa Program Studi Ilmu Hukum berhasil menempati 10 besar babak nasional dalam kompetisi “Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition 2018” yang diselenggarakan di Universitas Udayana, Bali (2-4/2). Tim PresUniv dianugerahi “Spirit of Jessup Award”, sebuah penghargaan yang diberikan pada tim yang paling baik mencontohkan semangat kebersamaan, keunggulan akademis, persaingan, dan apresiasi kepada sesama kompetitor. PresUniv juga terpilih karena merupakan satu-satunya tim pertama yang berhasil masuk dalam Top 10 sekaligus mendapat nilai bagus.
Sebanyak 23 tim dari berbagai universitas di Indonesia bertanding dalam kompetisi ini. Tim tersebut terdiri dari tujuh mahasiswa Ilmu Hukum angkata 2015 yaitu Suherlin, Niluh Larasathy Pinkan, Selly Marcelina, Vera Wati Natalita S, Wiwin Widianingsih, Rizki Maryam Amanda, Rahmah Mutiara Mustikaningsih, dan di mentori oleh Ulya Yasmine Prisandani, S.H., LL.M, salah satu dosen Ilmu Hukum PresUniv.
Jessup adalah kompetisi moot court terbesar dengan peserta yang datang dari setidaknya 645 sekolah hukum di 95 negara. Kompetisi tersebut merupakan simulasi perselisihan fiktif antar negara dalam Mahkamah Internasional, organ peradilan Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa.
"Motto tim untuk kompetisi ini adalah 'kerja keras tidak pernah mengkhianati'. Tapi sebagai pelatih, dengan bangga saya bisa mengatakan bahwa mereka pantas menerima penghargaan ini dan berada di posisi 10 besar melihat kerja keras yang mereka berikan selama bulan-bulan terakhir ini. Ini adalah pengalaman yang tak ternilai dan berharga bagi mereka, hal ini dapat mengembangkan mereka menjadi lebih baik lagi sebagai mahasiswa hukum maupun sebagai individu profesional, "kata Yasmine.
Tim PresUniv mempersiapkan diri untuk kompetisi ini selama dua bulan. Merskipun mereka berlatih sangat keras yaitu pada hari Senin sampai Jumat dari jam 17.00 sampai 24.00, namun pengorbanan tersebut terbayar dan anggota tim tersebut bisa menyeimbangkan tugas kuliah dan persiapan lomba ini.
“Kami bersyukur dapat mengikuti lomba ini. Jujur kami belajar sangat banyak, terutama dalam bidang International Law. Kami juga belajar bagaimana menyusun memo yang baik dan sistematik serta cara mengutip sumber hukum yang terpercaya,” tutur Suherlin.
