Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) hold an important role in the fundamental economics of Indonesia that provides a large number of work field for Indonesian workers. Therefore, the empowerment and protection of MSME as an integral part of the public economic are required. This was explained by the commissioner of Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha (KPPU), Dr. Drs. Chandra Setiawan, MM, Ph.D. at the 12th East Asia Conference on Competition Law and Policy (EAC) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (Wednesday, July 10, 2019).

“The empowerment of MSME is being managed by creating a conducive business environment, providing business opportunity, and giving encouragement and protection in developing the business. In this case, KPPU established partnership mechanism between MSME and large scale enterprises that is directly monitored by KPPU,” said Chandra who was also the Rector of President University, Cikarang (2012-2016).

Previously, in the same city, Chandra was also present as the speaker in forum EATOP or known as the 15th East Asia Top Level Officials’ Meeting on Competition Policy (Tuesday, July 9, 2019). On the panel themed “Actual Cases and Challenges of Cross-border Enforcement and Cooperation”, Chandra Chandra talked about the case of the scooter cartel between Yamaha and Honda. He mentioned the importance of cooperation between competition authorities.

Further, the 15th EATOP was held as a closed-door event for competition authorities to review recent developments and prospects on competition policy and law, with the objective of strengthening cooperation among East Asian economies. The 12th EAC was held as an open event for government officials, business leaders, competition professionals and academics to develop the common understanding of the importance of competition policy and law in the region. These events were hosted by the Authority for Fair Competition and Consumer Protection (AFCCP) in collaboration with the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).

 


 

Usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) memegang peranan penting dalam perekonomian Indonesia karena telah menciptakan banyak lapangan pekerjaan bagi masyarakat. Mengingat peranannya yang penting, diperlukan pemberdayaan dan perlindungan UMKM sebagai bagian dari ekonomi Indonesia. Hal itu dikatakan oleh komisioner Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha (KPPU) Dr. Drs. Chandra Setiawan, M.M., Ph.D saat menjadi pembicara dalam forum the 12th East Asia Conference on Competition Law and Policy (EAC) yang berlangsung di Ulanbaatar, Mongolia (Rabu, 10 Juli 2019).

“Pemberdayaan dan perlindungan ini dilakukan dengan menciptakan lingkungan bisnis yang kondusif, menciptakan kesempatan bisnis, dan memberikan perlindungan untuk bisnis yang sedang berkembang. Dalam hal ini, KPPU membentuk mekanisme kerja sama antara UMKM dengan bisnis-bisnis berskala besar yang akan langsung dimonitor oleh KPPU,” tambah Chandra yang juga merupakan  Rektor President University, Cikarang (2012-2016).

Sebelumnya, di kota yang sama, Chandra juga menjadi pembicara dalam forum EATOP atau the 15th East Asia Top Level Officials’ Meeting on Competition Policy (Selasa, 9 Juli 2019). Pada panel  bertema “Actual Cases and Challenges of Cross-border Enforcement and Cooperation”, Chandra berbicara mengenai kasus kartel skutik antara Yamaha dan Honda. Ia mengungkapkan pentingnya kerja sama antar otoritas persaingan.

Lebih lanjut, EATOP diadakan bagi otoritas persaingan untuk meninjau perkembangan dan prospek dari hukum kebijakan dan persaingan dalam bisnis. Selain itu, acara ini diadakan untuk memperkuat kerja sama ekonomi antara negara-negara di Asia Timur. Sementara itu, EAC yang diadakan di tempat yang sama bertujuan untuk pejabat pemerintah, pemimpin bisnis, dan akademisi untuk mengembangkan pemahaman mengenai pentingnya kebijakan dan hukum persaingan bisnis di Asia Timur. Acara ini diadakan oleh the Authority for Fair Competition and Consumer Protection (AFCCP) berkolaborasi dengan the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) dan the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).
