To face the fourth industrial era, President University encourages higher education system and curriculum for students in accordance with the era of digital technology advances or popularly known as the era of industrial 4.0.

"There are three pillars of education which was built by President University to face the era of industrial 4.0, namely the biotechnology development and medical science research, culture-based education and information technology (IT) usage for student learning," said SD Darmono, Founder of President University in a discussion event Mendorong Implementasi "Making Indonesia 4.0" with Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Industry of Republik Indonesia. The event was held at President Executive Club in Capitol Business District, Jababeka Industrial Estate Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday June 26, 2018.

According to Airlangga Hartarto, the world including Indonesia is currently entered the era of the fourth industrial revolution (4.0). "The fourth industrial revolution is the era of industry-based digital technology advances and big data," stated Airlangga Hartarto. Earlier at the end of the 18th century, the industrial revolution 1.0 used muscle and mechanical power made by water and steam power. In the industrial revolution 2.0 which began in the early 20th century used the mass production of technology and the utilization of electric power. Later in the industrial revolution 3.0 which began in early 1970 was characterized by the use of robots and IT technology for automation.

The implementation of the digital economy in Indonesia's industry, Airlangga added, will spur Indonesia's economic growth at 2% from the normal economic growth. Airlangga's statement also dismissed concerns that the utilization of IT and digital technology will trigger unemployment due to the replacement of manpower by machines and robots which are getting smarter. However, Airlangga recognized that to take advantage of the technology advances, Indonesia must develop and increase the educated human resource (HR). This is where education, including the one which developed by President University, plays a strategic role.

To anticipate the development of IT and digital technology, the Ministry of Industry is currently developing priority of industrial sectors through Making Indonesia 4.0 program. These sectors are manufacturing industry sectors in food & beverage, textile & clothing, automotive, chemical and electronics.

In particular, Airlangga appreciated President University's strategic action in welcoming the industrial 4.0 era. "The Ministry of Industry supports President University's efforts to produce graduates who are ready to compete in the digital economy era through biotechnology & medical science-based education breakthroughs, culture and IT advances," said Airlangga.

According to Dwi Larso, Vice Rector for Academics President University who was also the discussion moderator, stated that the President University would like to produce human resources who do not only excel academically but also eminent and competitive with strong character. It is important that they have ready-made skills for industry, as a professional, or as an entrepreneur. "President University will take part to create experts according to the roadmap program of Making Indonesia 4.0," explained Dwi Larso.
