Cikarang, Indonesia—President University debate team successfully went through the national level in the National University Debate Championship that was held by Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs. The event took place in Institut Teknologi Nasional (16-18/5). President University team consists of three students: Natalie Gabrielle Wilhelmina Peleh (International Relations 2015), Nadya (Communications 2015), and Nabilla (Communications 2015).

There are 40 teams from various universities in Kopertis Wilayah IV (West Java and Banten region) who competed in this competition and 11 teams were selected to represent Kopertis Wilayah IV and participated in the national level after passing three preliminary sessions. Each team consists of three students, two debaters and one adjudicator.

The national level championship will be held on September 3-8, 2017 and participated by 112 winning teams from the regional level. The total participants in the national level are 336 persons consist of 224 debaters and 112 adjudicators.

The national winning team will represent Indonesia in World University Debating Championship (WUDC) 2018 that will be held in Mexico City, Mexico.

Lambok Hermanto S, S.S., M.Hum, one of English Department lecturers of President University and Coach of the debate team stated that to prepare for the national competition, the team trains twice a week and conduct joint training with President University Debate Club. The team members are chosen by the recommendation of the Head of Study Programmes.

“I hope that the debate club could always actively involved in both regional and national competition, and in the long run could participate in the international level as well”, said Lambok. (SL)
