Cikarang, Indonesia — To commemorate the birth of Pancasila that was marked on June 1, President University conducted a ceremony that was held in front of Jababeka Convention Center Building, Cikarang (1/6). There are approximately 100 people of varied backgrounds attended the ceremony ranging from students, lecturers, to staffs of the university. 

The ceremony was led by Jagat Kalam Nugraha (Electrical Engineering 2016) as the commander of ceremony. The recitation of Decree of President of Republic Indonesia No. 24 year 2016 on the appointment of June 1 as birth day of Pancasila was read by Vice Rector for Academics, Dwi Larso, Ph.D.

In this occasion, the inspector of the ceremony, Dr. Jony O. Haryanto, Rector of President University delivered about the history of Pancasila.

“We are here to commemorate the birth of Pancasila. The older it gets, the more sacred it will be. It is proven that until now, Pancasila is still a strong foundation of our country. Pancasila was born with a deep thoughts and contemplations by the founding father, Ir. Soekarno as the foundation to strengthen the nation”, said Jony.

He also said that every point (Sila) of Pancasila is correlated with each other, it provide guidance on how to live a good state life.

According to Jagat, the ceremony is a good way to raise awareness on Pancasila, remembering that many of young generation don’t know about the history of Pancasila, let alone to implement it in the daily life.

“This is our first time to run a ceremony to commemorate the birth of Pancasila, inline with the Decree of President No. 24 year 2016. Pancasila as the foundation of this country needs to be commemorated and implemented, not only in the past but also in this current era. Through this event, I hope that the students could implement Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) and maintain tolerance in the society”, said Dwi Larso.

The event was held according to circular letter of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) that encourage all higher education institutions have to conduct ceremony. Kemristekdikti also encourage all universities to hold a quote-making competition, a short film competition, and a research paper competition. (SL)
