President University Major Association of Law held President University Legal Forum (PULF) on May 13-14, 2019 at Antero Hotel, Jababeka. The theme “Human Rights” was carried out for students to voice their opinions about human rights and providing a platform for them to be able to develop themselves.
The competition consists of two stages. The first stage was ranking 1 or RnR which was done on the first day. This stage selected 6 finalists to proceed to the next stage. The second stage is Legal Forum. At this stage, the finalists gave speeches and debated to express their opinions on various human right cases.
“We chose human rights theme because this is the most common problem happens around us whether we realize it or not. Other than that, euthanasia specifically is chosen as the debate motion because there are a lot of people who are not familiar with this topic,” said Reynaldo Arya, the committee of PULF.
Further, the committee hopes that euthanasia cases get more attention from various parties. This because euthanasia still becomes a debatable topic.
The competition was not only participated by law students but also various students from other majors in President University. One of these participants was a team from Communications and International Relations students who won this competition.
Himpunan Mahasiswa Hukum President University mengadakan President University Legal Forum (PULF) pada 13-14 Mei 2019 di Antero Hotel, Jababeka. Membawa tema “Human Rights”, pertandingan ini bertujuan untuk menyuarakan pendapat mahasiswa tentang hak asasi manusia dan menjadi wadah agar mereka dapat mengembangkan diri.
Pertandingan ini terdiri dari dua tahap. Tahap pertama adalah ranking 1 atau RnR yang dilaksanakan pada hari pertama. Tahap ini adalah seleksi untuk memilih 6 finalis yang akan melanjutkan pertandingan ke hari kedua. Tahap kedua adalah Legal Forum. Di tahap inilah keenam finalis berpidato dan berdebat untuk menyampaikan pendapat mereka mengenai berbagai kasus hak asasi manusia.
“Topik human rights kami pilih karena topik ini merupakan hal paling umum yang terjadi di sekitar kita baik itu kita sadari maupun tidak. Selain itu, euthanasia secara spesifik kami usung menjadi mosi dalam lomba debat ini karena kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang euthanasia,” ujar Reynaldo Arya, panitia pelaksana PULF.
Lebih lanjut, panitia pelaksana berharap kasus-kasus euthanasia mendapat lebih banyak sorotan dari berbagai pihak. Hal ini terkait praktis nya yang masih menjadi perdebatan dalam dunia perlindungan hak asasi manusia.
Pertandingan ini tidak hanya diikuti oleh mahasiswa hukum, tetapi juga diikuti oleh berbagai mahasiswa jurusan lain. Adapun peserta dari jurusan lain adalah tim dari mahasiswa komunikasi dan hubungan internasional yang menjadi pemenang dalam pertandingan ini.
