Founder and director of Jababeka Group as well as the founder of President University, S.D Darmono received Doctor Honoris Causa from University of Glasgow, Scotland at Bute Hall on Wednesday (13/6). The honorary title is given to individuals who is considered to have major contribution in their fields. S.D Darmono is the only Indonesian out of 10 honorary awardees of University of Glasgow.
“We respect and recognize individuals who has remarkable success and has major contribution in their fields, not only in Scotland but also in England and the world,” said Professor Anton Muscatelli, Vice Chancellor University of Glasgow.
The honorary title was given by the Chancellor of University of Glasgow, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman which coincides with the anniversary of the University of Glasgow Foundation which has been established since 1451.
Through Jababeka, S.D Darmono has built the city of Cikarang with an area of 5.600 hectares. He succeeded to bring more than 1.700 investors from 30 countries which have absorbed one million workers. Beside Cikarang, S.D. Darmono is also building new cities in Kendal, Tanjung Lesung, and Morotai.
Pendiri dan direktur PT Jababeka Group sekaligus pendiri President University, S.D Darmono menerima gelar kehormatan Doktor Honoris Causa dari Universitas Glasgow, Skotlandia di Bute Hall pada Rabu (13/6). Gelar kehormatan tersebut diberikan pada individu yang dinilai bekontribusi besar di bidangnya masing-masing. S.D Darmono menjadi satu-satunya wakil dari Indonesia dari 10 penerima gelar kehormatan dari Universitas Glasgow.
"Kami menghormati dan mengakui individu yang telah mencapai tingkat keberhasilan yang luar biasa dan yang telah memberikan kontribusi besar untuk bidang mereka, tidak hanya di Skotlandia, tetapi juga di seluruh Inggris, bahkan dunia," ungkap Professor Anton Muscatelli, Wakil Rektor Universitas Glasgow.
Gelar tersebut diberikan oleh Rektor Universitas Glasgow, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman yang bertepatan dengan hari ulang tahun Yayasan Universitas Glasgow yang sudah berdiri sejak 1451.
Lewat Jababeka, S.D Darmono telah membangun kota Cikarang dengan luas 5.600 hektar. Ia berhasil mendatangkan lebih dari 1.700 investor dari 30 negara dan menyerap 1 juta pekerja. Selain di Cikarang, S.D Darmono juga tengah membangun kota baru di Kendal, Tanjung Lesung, dan Morotai.
