Bonn, Germany—Dr. Maria Jacinta Arquisola, BA, MHRM one of the President University lecturers and also the Director of Professional Development Center President University was invited as a speaker to a prestigious international conference titled “Female Leadership and Higher Education Management in Developing Countries” which was held on 28-29 June 2017 at Hilton Bonn, Germany. The event attended by Gulsun Saglamer (President of European Women Rectors Association), Dr. Elizabeth Rakaesola (President of the African Gong, the Pan-African Wide Association of Female Academic Leaders), and approximately 150 other distinguished guests.
Dr. Maria presented a paper titled “Female Academics Leaders’ Constraints and Sense-making in Indonesian Higher Education” that was among 20 exceptional initiatives out of more than 400 applications submitted worldwide that was chosen to be presented, and later published as part of the conference proceedings.
Her paper examines on the challenges facing the female higher education academic leaders in Indonesia, and the necessary conditions that institutions and the Indonesian government can do to minimize leadership constraints and agency.
The conference was held by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) and the Deutscher Akdemischer Austauchdienst (DAAD) and aimed at not only providing a platform for discussing practices, it also contributes to develop an adapted and useful measures for the Diversity and Innovative Education Strategies (DIES) Programme that DAAD has been implementing for years.
“This was important opportunity that could not be missed because there were so many female academic leaders in attendance. I was able to meet and connect with so many luminaries and other dignitaries in the region, provided me the platform to promote my work in Indonesia, as well as to promote President University. Research collaboration arouse out of these network meetings will be pursued on the nearest future”, said Maria. (SL)

Acara ini dihadiri oleh Gulsun Saglamer (Presiden Asosiasi Rektor Wanita Eropa), Dr. Elizabeth Rakaesola (Presiden Africa Gong, Pan-African Wide Association of Women Academic Leaders), dan sekitar 150 tamu terhormat lainnya.
Dr. Maria mempresentasikan sebuah makalah berjudul “Female Academics Leaders’ Constraints and Sense-making in Indonesian Higher Education” yang merupakan salah satu dari 20 makalah inisiatif luar biasa dari 400 makalah dari seluruh dunia dan kemudian dipilih untuk dipresentasikan, dan diterbitkan sebagai bagian dari proceeding konferensi ini.
Makalah tersebut membahas tantangan yang dihadapi para pemimpin akademis perempuan di perguruan tinggi Indonesia, dan syarat penting yang dapat dilakukan oleh institusi dan pemerintah Indonesia untuk meminimalisir hambatan kepemimpinan dan agensi.
Konferensi tersebut diselenggarakan oleh German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) dan Deutscher Akdemischer Austauchdienst (DAAD), ditujukan untuk tidak hanya menyediakan sebuah platform untuk mendiskusikan praktik, namun juga berkontribusi untuk mengembangkan langkah-langkah adaptif dan bermanfaat untuk Strategi Pendidikan Keragaman dan Inovatif (DIES) yang telah diimplementasikan oleh DAAD selama bertahun-tahun.
"Ini adalah kesempatan penting yang tidak bisa dilewatkan karena ada begitu banyak pemimpin akademisi perempuan yang hadir. Saya dapat bertemu dan terhubung dengan begitu banyak tokoh-tokoh terhormat di wilayah ini, hal ini juga memberi saya platform untuk mempromosikan hasil riset saya di Indonesia, dan juga mempromosikan President University. Kerja sama di bidang riset terjalin dalam pertemuan ini dan akan kami laksanakan dalam waktu dekat", Ujar Maria. (SL)
